Urbans Burn Demonstration Room provides a useful facility to educate
people and provide the potential to enhance the quality and standard of life
while demonstrating the full ability of these life and property saving systems.
The Burn Demonstration Room is constructed of 8" x 16" concrete
block on three sides and the existing concrete tilt wall on the fourth (or
South) side. The dimensions are approximately 10 (w) x 10 (1) x 8 (h).
Three walls have windows for viewing the demonstration. The windows are
constructed of hollow metal frames with wired fire glass.
The exterior of the Burn Demonstration Room is painted with safety red,
washable enamel paint. The interior is painted with washable white enamel paint.
Smoke and steam from the demonstration is exhausted through the roof upon
completion of each demonstration. The fire damper and the roof mounted upblast
ventilator are electrically operated and connected to the same manual switch
which will activate both units simultaneously.
The fires in the Burn Demonstration Room are originated in either a metal
container, or from cotton curtains suspended from the ceiling.
Usually, within the first 30 seconds the smoke and heat detectors
activate. Within 60 to 90 seconds the fire sprinkler activates. Activation of the
concealed fire sprinkler activates the water flow alarm and will discharge approximately 18 gallons of water per
minute (gpm) the sprinkler will discharge water for approximately 2 minutes before being
manually shut off.
The fire alarm system incorporated into the Burn Demonstration Room features
"state of the art " components including photo and ion smoke
detectors, heat detector, and a UL Listed fire alarm panel with each component having its
own audible and / or visual local alarm.
This demonstration duplicates the actual occurrences in a live fire scenario.
